Ingredients:
- 5 medium size ripe tomatoes
- 1 small lemon size tamarind
- 4 cups water
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 2 green chilies
- 1/2 cup coriander leaves
- 1 tsp black pepper powder
- Salt to taste
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 3 sprigs curry leaves
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 broken dry red chilies
Method:
- Steam the tomatoes and tamarind.
- Once they cool down blend them in a mixer to make a fine paste.
- Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, curry leaves and dry red chilies.
- When they start to crackle, pour the tomato paste to it.
- Add turmeric powder, salt, red chili powder, green chilies, chopped coriander, black pepper powder and water.
- Bring it to a boil and simmer it for 15 minutes.
- Serve with hot steamed rice.
